Chapter Thirty-Five

Play Ball

Northeast Bronx, New York City—time 2:58p.m.

The rest of the Saturday afternoon shot by like a breeze, while Bishop stayed in for the day. He decided to get a little workout in during the early evening, and then later on would watch the Knicks’ game for the night.

Both Janay and Bishop Jr. were out the house, so Bishop had the whole house to himself for the time being. Janay had gone over to her sister’s house to spend the evening with her and the newborn baby, while Bishop Jr. had gone out to Sousa Park with his friends to shoot some hoops. So while home alone for the moment, Bishop slipped out his cloths he had dressed in earlier and slipped into his workout gear. He was about to slide his workout gloves on and head out to the backyard, when the telephone rung.

“BRAING! BRAING!” His telephone rang twice.

“Victorious what’s going on?” Bishop answered.

“Quick, turn on the Eyewitness News. They have a report on Richardson the black community leader from Harlem I wanted to bring into the brotherhood. Someone murdered him last night inside his office down in Harlem. It was a massacre. His whole staff slaughter along with him. No doubt, this was a hit made by someone powerful. Although police authorities are claiming they don’t want to draw any conclusions as of yet; which they don’t want to speculate, anyone can see this was a hit,” Victorious said with anger.

Bishop immediately cuts on the bedroom TV, while Victorious continues talking, “As you know Rome and I paid him a visit yesterday, to find out if he was willing to join our cause.”

“Yeah, I heard. I spoke with Rome a little while ago. He told me how you two found your man not to be a good candidate for us,” Bishop informed Victorious.

“That’s correct. He had me fooled. I thought the brother was ready for us, but he seemed to have his politics twisted with his religious faith. But this didn’t mean he wasn’t a good man,” Victorious declared.

“Of course not, but apparently he must’ve been too much of a good man; because he certainly pissed somebody the fuck off with his politics. Obviously someone or some people wanted his ass dead—and I mean quick, fast and in a hurry too,” Bishop stated.

“There’s no question about that, this speaks for itself—as you can see.” Instantly Victorious hears another call coming in through his line. “Hold on Rome calling me,” Victorious tells Bishop, as he switches over to the next line. “Rome, I’m on line with Bishop. Hold on while I do the three-way with us,” Victorious tells Rome. “Bishop you still on?” Victorious asked Bishop, as he switched back to Bishop.

“Yeah, I’m still on,” Bishop answered.

“Good, I got us on three-way. Go ahead Rome talk,” Victorious told Rome.

“Hurry up and turn to the Channel-7 Ne—,” Rome started to tell them.

Victorious cuts Rome off and says, “We know. We already got it.”

“What are the odds of this shit happening right after we pay him a visit?” Rome asked them both.
